Suffolk County Community College's Board of Trustees will vote Thursday, May 12 to waive the membership fee for Suffolk County disabled veterans at the College's two health clubs, said Board Chair E. Christopher Murray. The College has health clubs on its Eastern Campus in Riverhead and the Michael J. Grant Campus in Brentwood.
Adults with a high school diploma and some or no post-secondary education will soon be able to get free career training at Suffolk County Community College thanks to a $408,157 grant from the State University of New York's (SUNY) Stay Near Go Far initiative. The grant is a subaward of SUNY's Education Stabilization Fund -- Reimagine Workforce Preparation Grant from the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Career, Technical, and Adult Education.
Suffolk County Community College will celebrate its Class of 2022 - more than 3,000 graduates in all -- at two May 19 ceremonies, the first such gatherings since the COVID-19 pandemic forced the cancelation of the 2020 and 2021 in-person celebrations. "We recognize the incredible circumstances and obstacles members of the Class of 2022 have overcome" said Suffolk County Community College President Dr. Edward Bonahue, preparing for his first graduation at Suffolk. "The Class of 2022 has persevered, pushed through, and succeeded despite the challenges and uncertainty faced during the course of their studies. On May 19 we will proudly celebrate our students' success!"
