Suffolk's Talise Geer, Finalist for Prestigious Vanguard Award


Talise Geer is a finalist for a prestigious Vanguard Student Recognition Award that acknowledges outstanding students who are enrolled in career and technical education programs that prepare them for professions that are not traditional for their gender. The Vanguard Award is presented annually by the NET (Nontraditional Employment & Training) Project, an initiative administered by SUNY Albany's Center for Women in Government & Civil Society in partnership with the New York State Education Department. Geer is one of 15 state-wide finalists for the award and pursuing a new career in cybersecurity.

Suffolk Students Excel in Internships Despite Pandemic's Challenges


The global spread of COVID-19 has disrupted life as we know it, including the traditional college internship model. Yet, opportunities for work experience are still abundant. With safety top of mind for both employers and students during COVID-19, several Suffolk County Community College students from Assistant Professor Kristin Conway's Cooperative Education in Business course landed remote internships during the fall 2020 semester. Staying home allowed interns to learn and work safely while staying active in the job market.

"Take Your Shot" Campaign Encourages Residents To Get The Covid-19 Vaccine


Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone kicked off a robust public awareness campaign to educate residents about the importance of receiving the COVID-19 vaccine. Suffolk County Community College Interim President, Louis Petrizzo said the College will make all of its campuses available to assist in the distribution of the vaccine.

Suffolk to NYIT, Next Stop: Department of Defense Cyber Sleuth


Zach Singleton, a 2018 Suffolk County Community College graduate with an associate degree in Cybersecurity, and 2020 New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) graduate was recently awarded a prestigious Department of Defense (DoD) Cyber Scholarship. The scholarship is part of the DoD's student recruitment program aimed at generating the next generation of national security professionals. In exchange for a full scholarship, Singleton will perform a service obligation with the DoD as a civilian employee.
